BREAKOUT - Obesity rehabilitation for young adults (under 30)

Description / Topics

Obesity has been a challenge for the healthcare system and healthcare policy for years. The proportion of people considered obese is around 24 per cent among men and women in Germany. The proportion in the group of young adults aged 18 to 24 is around 8 per cent and increases with age. Occupational rehabilitation does not provide any age-specific, preventative services with a focus on internal metabolic indications and positive outcomes are rarely transferred into everyday practice. In the project "BREAKOUT", obese adults (under 30) are to undergo a lifestyle-oriented interval rehabilitation programme consisting of standard inpatient rehabilitation and a one-week booster. The project has four innovative aspects: 1. Adaptation of the content of exercise and seminar programmes for a young target group 2. A closed group setting 3. Additional experiential/recreational therapy focus 4. Consideration of psychological comorbidities In addition to an activity bonus, further media-supported, multimodal support is planned by the clinic. The project is being realised at the Teutoburger Wald rehabilitation clinic in Bad Rothenfelde. A scientific evaluation by the Medical School Hannover is implemented to ensure a high-quality programme that can be continuously developed further.
