Comparison of the effects of interval rehabilitation with those of conventional medical rehabilitation in the treatment of employable patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus

In a randomized controlled trial, the effect of interval rehabilitation compared to standard rehabilitation will be investigated in employable people with diabetes mellitus type 2. In addition to the three weeks of conventional rehabilitation, the intervention group will receive regular health-related telephone consultations over a period of one year as well as an additional week of inpatient rehabilitation after 6 months, during which the content will be refreshed and the transfer to everyday life will be strengthened. It is expected that this longer-term support will lead to an increase and stabilization of therapy success. Target variables are metabolic control, cardiovascular risk factors, treatment satisfaction and disease management skills as well as well-being. In parallel, the benefit of such measures will be estimated by analyzing health economic parameters. All suitable people who start rehabilitation treatment for diabetes mellitus at the Niederrhein Clinic in Bad Neuenahr within 12 months will be included.
