Comparison of Measures and Structures of Cancer Rehabilitation in Countries of the European Community

Objectives: This project wants to document and compare the existing rehabilitation structures and measures available for cancer patients after discharge from hospital within the countries: France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Slovenia, Sweden and The Netherlands. It is also planned to establish a working group with representatives of the European countries involved. Within this group the various concepts should be discusses and exchanged in order to give recommendations for minimal standards in cancer rehabilitation. Methods: A basic questionnaire includes structural issues, a description of the rehabilitation process and its evaluation. This questionnaire is given to patient organisations and health care professionals who are familiar with the aftercare and rehabilitation of cancer patients in the countries involved. Hereafter the respondents are asked to take part in face-to-face interviews in order to explore the given information in detail. The project is part of the North Rhine Westphalian Network on Rehabilitation Sciences and is financed by German pension insurance companies.
