Developement of a microfluidic based refreshable Braille Display

Description / Topics

In the course of this project a display, which shows text written in Braille as well as dot graphics, will be developed. For doing so, 960 microfluidic actuators are placed on a surface of size DIN A4. Each of these individually controllable actuators can be used to open a microfluidic channel. When pressure is applied to the channels the membrane above the opened channels is bulged. In contrast, the surface above the closed channels stays smooth. Using this inexpensive technology will enable a cheap and energy-efficient display.
