Disorders of Capacity as measured with the mini-ICF-P

Description / Topics

Chronic illness results regularly in disorders of capacity (ICF). In reference to the Groningen Social Disability Schedule-II (GSDS-II) and the ICF an instrument (Mini-ICF-Rating for Psychological Disorders, Mini-ICF-P)) was developed, that allows to measure disorders of capacity related to disorders of mental functioning. Dimensions which are rated are: (1) adjustment to routines, (2) structuring of tasks, (3) flexibility, (4) competency, (5) decision making,(6) endurance, (7) assertiveness, ( 8) contact with others, (9) self exposure, (10) intimacy, (11) non-job acitivities, (12) self care,(13) mobility. For each dimension anker definitions and rating instructions are given in a manual. Investigations of validity showed in unselected patients in psychosomatic rehabilitation a sum score of M= 1. 14, SD= .69, with possible scores ranging from 0 to 4. The least impairment was found in respect to "Self care" (M= .58, SD= .77) and "adjustment to routines" (M= .74, SD= .98) while "flexibility" (M= 1.67, SD= 1.06) and assertiveness (M= 1.64, SD= 1.07) showed the highest scores. There were significant correlations with the Symptom-Checkliste-90 (SCL-90), attitudes to work (AVEM) and sick leave. In a further project the differential validity in respect to sick leave and special illness states has been tested. In ongoing projects an italian version is in preparation in cooperation with Prof. M. Balestrieri, Deptartment of Psychiatry at the University of Udine and an english version in cooperation with Prof. A. Molobdynski, department of Psychiatry at the University of Oxford. In empirical studies the spectrum of diasability dimensions in different mental disorders is assessed.
