Type of Project: Funded project Study
Development and Evaluation of MBOR-AHB in Orthopedic Rehabilitation of the Pension Insurance (MBOR-AHB Study)

Description / Topics

Abstract: Medical-occupationally oriented rehabilitation (MBOR) aims to improve the job participation chances of special risk groups (BBPL) by increasing job-related orientation. MBOR has been implemented in routine care in orthopedic rehabilitation. The proportion of rehabilitants with a "special job problem situation" (BBPL) is estimated to be about 30% in orthopedics. There is now good evidence for their effectiveness in the field of curative treatments (HV). For follow-up treatments (AHB) there are no reliable data so far regarding the transferability of experiences with MBOR HV to the specifics of the AHB procedure. This is true with regard to target groups, MBOR concepts and outcomes. Against this background, the study deals with the examination and development of an AHB-MBOR concept for orthopedic rehabilitation, its evaluation from the user and expert perspective as well as its effectiveness in terms of a stable and longer-term retention in working life. Aims and questions: The central aim of the research project is to find out whether rehabilitants of a follow-up treatment (AHB) with a special job-related problem situation (BBPL) can also benefit from a medical-occupationally oriented rehabilitation measure (MBOR), if the entire rehabilitation process and the MBOR intervention are oriented towards the needs of the target group and the specifics of the procedure. Key questions of the project concern the assessment of MBOR needs in AHB and the effectiveness of MBOR-AHB specifically tailored to the target group (AHB rehabilitants with BBPL). Methods: The study is designed in three phases with a mixed-methods design: Phase I (survey actual state AHB-MBOR_old) and III (review effects comparison AHB-MBOR_new vs. _old) are designed as a multicenter, quasi-experimental, controlled intervention study (longitudinal, 3 measurement time points) with an intervention group (IVG) and a control group (KG). Phase II (development AHB-MBOR_neu) is realized as an explorative, qualitative study based on expert discussions and interviews. Both in the analysis of the ACTUAL (AHB-MBOR_alt) and in the development of the TARGET (AHB-MBOR_neu), the methodology follows a multi-perspective (rehabilitants, employees, KTL performance data) and multi-dimensional approach (quantitative, qualitative). Implementation is planned in three orthopedic rehabilitation facilities. The data analysis includes descriptive as well as inferential statistical calculations. Benefits and potential uses: The project aims to develop and implement an MBOR concept in the field of AHB in orthopedic rehabilitation and to evaluate it with regard to its effectiveness. The results should sharpen the MBOR-AP in the direction of AHB and be made available to the professional public, the cost bearers and especially the rehabilitation clinics in the form of a manual / training concept. Publications / lectures shall additionally support the transfer of the results into the rehabilitation practice.
