Functional Capacity Evaluation models (FCE models) in dermatology / allergology

As early as the beginning of the 1990s, it was recognized that skin protection preparations alone do not have the predictive protective effect for which they were developed, especially in patients with skin diseases (Müller, U., Buhles, N. 1992). In parallel with the development of FCE models in pension insurance for orthopedics, neurology, etc., the Department of Dermatology and Allergology developed a similar model for dermatologic/immunologic/allergologic issues. With the help of a modified alkali resistance test, the individually tolerated and then also predictively protective skin protection preparations of the individual test person can be separated from preparations that are not effective or even worsen the skin protection. After a complete skin protection plan (individually suitable cleanser, care product, skin protection ointment, etc.) has been drawn up, an individual skin protection plan that is tolerated under parental leave is then tested in the area of the damaging activity supervised by the rehabilitation team for its consistency and effectiveness. Only then can a decision be made as to whether vocational rehabilitation appears necessary for participation in working life or whether an attempt at work in the original field of activity under personal skin protection can be recommended. In the context of secondary prevention, the model is further developed educationally and generated in the context of rehabilitation also as a measure of the dysfunction and for the compensation of this dysfunction in the sense of maintaining the ability to work.
