EIVIWAC - Education Initiative Visually Impaired Women Against breast Cancer: Introduction of the Medical Tactile Examiner (MTU) qualification in further countries of the European Union

The Vocational Training Centre in Düren has been successfully training blind women as "medical tactile examiners" (MTU) using the discoveringhands (R) method since 2006. In the meantime, 18 MTUs have been successfully qualified and passed their examinations before the North Rhine Medical Association. The consistently positive media and patient response has also led to inquiries from other European countries regarding MTU vocational training. The introduction of this qualification in other EU countries is certainly highly desirable, but it cannot simply be transferred to other countries. To this end, the country-specific regulations and framework conditions for vocational training and the admission requirements for medical professions must first be reviewed. Likewise, the implementation of vocational training for female trainers must be planned within the national framework. In order to make these preparations adequately, the EIVIWAC project was launched. This partnership project aims to clarify all the issues that need to be addressed in order to implement the qualification in the partner countries. The aim of the project is the development of implementation strategies in the respective partner countries France, Romania and Ireland.
