The project aims to support the early integration of young people with disabilities into working life. Experience shows that integration into working life is more successful if students are already intensively engaged with the topic of work and jobs during their school years. In the context of the transition from school to job, the school, as a preparatory institution, plays a decisive role in planning the future career. However, an early and comprehensive examination of the students will only succeed if the school prepares a concept for the job orientation and carries it out systematically. This intention is now being pursued in part by schools and school authorities, but there is still a lack of targeted preparation for teachers. Objective: As part of the Startchancen project, a curriculum for a training program for teachers is to be developed. This training offer will provide teachers at support and integration schools with the target group of intellectual disabilities and the mission of orientation and preparation of their students for professional life a forum for exchange, learning and implementation of integration practice. This will strengthen the background, action orientation and methodological and networking skills of teachers with regard to the job orientation and preparation of their students. The overall aim of the project is to support young people with disabilities in asserting their entitlement to vocational integration as formulated by the legislator and to make use of the possible support provided by specialist services. Procedure: In the course of the project, the first task is to take stock of the topic of vocational integration for teachers. In this research phase, best-practice examples are included and concepts for job integration from schools are analyzed. In addition, a project group with specialists from the region and experts will develop a training curriculum. This curriculum will then be tested in Schleswig-Holstein. At the end of the project, the concept will be presented to other German states so that it can also be used there for the training of teachers.
