PiA - Perspectives in elderly care

The project is aimed at young adults with an intellectual disability from the areas of school-to-work transition and workshop-to-general labor market transition, who would like to qualify for a job in inpatient geriatric care facilities. One focus of the qualification is in the area of simple caring activities, whereby a qualifying qualification in accordance with § 87b SGB XI as a care assistant is possible. In an 18-month qualification, the participants can implement and test their acquired knowledge and skills directly in a practical placement through a close interlinking of theory and practice. In this way, they get to know the reality of the company and can deal with it in a protected and supervised environment. For the facilities providing inpatient care for the elderly, participation offers the opportunity to get to know the young people and to develop an eye for their special skills, also with a view to later employment. In the context of the existing shortage of skilled workers in care facilities, which will continue to worsen, there are good opportunities for employment in the area of low-threshold activities.
