Type of Project: Funded project Scientific Work
Pupils with development potential experience job perspective

Description / Topics

One of the most urging problems of work life is the fact that a bigger part of human work potential remains unused. For employers and employees this situation is unsatisfying and causes a lot of psychological, social and economical consequences. Especially the so called “disadvantaged youths” are located in the set of unused potential. For these youths a deficient support in the personal biography matches a working environment, where the aspiration of a consequent applied inclusion is achieved only insufficient. As a result of this the pupils don’t get many chances for the development of personality and experiences of good performance normally won’t happen. On this way neither “maturity for apprenticeship” nor “orientation in jobs” can arise and finally there is less chance to get a contribution for the elimination of the shortage of skilled workers.

Under the name “Tandem-Model” a concept for support, which was devised at the University of Kassel in Germany, is tested and evaluated in the project. This concept is about college-students, who want to become teachers and help disadvantaged youths during their study. As coaches the students support the pupils especially in companies and school. Also they build an important contact with the parents of the pupils by visiting them regularly at home. With the help of this concept the youths should be able to absolve long-term-practicum in the context of prevocational education schemes to get a strong base for their later career.
